May 29th marked the day that the North Clackamas Sunrise Rotary awarded Bridget Ortiz the PACE scholarship. This is the sixth year the club has awarded a scholarship of $1500 to a graduating student from the North Clackamas PACE program.
Bridget is a teen parent! She has successfully completed her high school requirements and received her Oregon Diploma! This is not an easy task for students who are pregnant or parenting while completing their high school education. Bridget is excited to attend college at Clackamas Community and major in the health field. PACE is a program that supports the continuing education of pregnant and parenting teens as well as providing onsite childcare for their babies. This allows the new parent to gain valuable parenting skills while getting the education they need to become a high school graduate.
The Clackamas Sunrise Rotary club is proud to be a support of the PACE program by offering this valuable financial incentive to these teen parents. Along with our scholarship program we also provide a Holiday party for all of the teen parents and their families. Being a member of this club allows everyone an opportunity to mentor these young families and help them find success and support in continuing their education.
